HP Pavillion Laptop 17-arOxx

I called what I thought was the support number.  Having issues with my new HP Pavillion 17.  Tech had me run hard drive testing but now wants to access my computer remotely to check and see if it is a software issue.  Is this safe to do?

Hello @jmkay,

They will normally ask for permission and inform you that you can choose to disconnect the remote control at any time. However, I've only had this experience when I was using chat support and I'm not very familiar with phone support remote control.

Could you Private Message me the number you used to call and I can confirm whether it is legit?

You should see a notification in the "mail looking icon" at the top right of this browser page.

Kind regards,

Eddy

Hi, I actually have the same question. Yesterday I called in and got help on the phone to see if there's something wrong with my battery (plugged in, not charging). They asked permission to access it remotely to examine the issue and walked me through an hp assistant program or something: https://support.hp.com/ca-en/remoteconnection

Can you please confirm that this was a safe process? I'm still unfamiliar with these kinds of things and it sure would ease some of my anxiety. Any info you can provide on this process would be awesome.
