Pavilion
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been receiving alerts on my laptop to activate driver updates, but I'm not sure they are genuine alerts so I haven't done anything.

This morning I thought I'd investigate further and when I clicked on the link, it takes me to an american site asking for $9.99. Needless to say I haven't pursued it.

I presume this is some bug that has managed to wriggle through my protection software.

 Can anyone confirm?

Hi

Without seeing the link, YES.

MalwareBytes?

As @Lil_Boy_Blue has already indicated, there is really no way for US to determine what has infected your PC.

Malwarebytes is one of the better malware products, so I heartily second its recommendation.

Also, you should Google the wording that comes on screen to see if that helps to identify the specific malware.  Once you have that information, another search often yields detailed instructions on how to remove that malware.
