Is updating BIOS safe without losing data?

My notebook product id is: B3J78PA#UUF

I have older BIOS which can be seen in the following link https://screenpresso.com/=Oksub 

What I need to do is updating this bios to a new one. I need to understand that as I am running Windows 10 creator on my machine, Would it be safe to update bios and could it cause any data loss to my hard drive?

Hello @w20grippy,

Updating BIOS has no relation with Hard Drive data. And updating BIOS will not wipe out files.

If your Hard Drive fails -- then you could/would lose your files.

BIOS stands for Basic Input Ouput System and this just tells your computer what kind of hardware is connected to your computer. The BIOS controls things like the hard drives, peripherals, ports, central processing unit and other basic programs.

As I came up with an understanding that my current bios is older and the HP support page which allowed to select OS either Winodws 7 or Winodws 8 and then I found there is an Bios update the same version (for Win7/8) but I am running Windows 10, Would it be a factor in updating the BIOS?

Hello @w20grippy,

The BIOS version available is only tested for WIN 7 and 8. And not for WIN 10.

So installng this version of BIOS update might damage your PC. We do not recommend you for the update.

Now the only way for you to update BIOS is by downgrading the operating system to WIN 8 from 10. Update the BIOS and then upgrade to WIN 10 again,  Which is a lengthy process. 

 Rather kindly wait till HP releases BIOS Update for WIN 10. Keep checking the website often.

Thanks for that information. I was probably going to damage my hardware without knowing. Can I take a backup of my current bios and then preserving it to use later in case i need to test new bios that are released for Win7 and Win8?

Yes , You may save it to a USB Pen Drive and recover later.
