Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Just received an HP Notebook/laptop. Installed by HP: Windows Defender.

It also has, apparently, McAfee Live Safe (without web protection) and McAfee Safe Connect trial version installed.

McAfee keeps popping up asking me to  install McAfee WebAdvisor software and to "Upgarde" to premium (YES, TYPO INCLUDED)

Isn't Windows Defender enough?

Thanks for advice.

Hi:

You may get various opinions regarding your question, but I have 5 HP PC's running W10, and I only use the built in Windows Defender antivirus/antispyware program.

I have never had an issue with viruses or spyware.

So, IMHO, Windows Defender is enough.

Also, when I have bought new HP PC's with trial software such as McAfee, the first thing I do is to uninstall it.

@NOLAkathryn

If you had asked this same question years ago, you would have received overwhelming response that Windows Defender was a waste of time and you should rush out and buy a commercial AV App.

But, in recent years, MS has made major strides in Windows Defender to the degree, as @Paul_Tikkanen indicates, it is generally enough just to be running that. I use it on several PCs for which I don't want to have to buy a commercial AV product.

Thank you, too, for replying. I'm doubly certain now that I'll stick with the Windows Defender. 🙂
