I'm connecting a Samsung Essentials monitor to my Omen 16 Laptop, but it has a significant lag, a 5-10 second response lag. Apps would not respond. The same monitor is working on another laptop with a much lower spec. Is it a compatibility issue? I installed updated drivers from the Samsung website, but the issue is still persisting.

Hi @Sahil_jinx,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The lag you're experiencing when connecting the Samsung Essentials monitor to your HP Omen 16 laptop could be due to several factors, including resolution settings, refresh rate mismatches, or a driver conflict. Here's a step-by-step approach to troubleshoot.

Check Display Resolution & Refresh Rate:

  • Right-click on the desktop > Select Display Settings.
  • Scroll down and make sure the resolution and refresh rate are set to match the monitor's specifications. If the refresh rate is too low, it can cause lag.
  • Click Advanced Display Settings > Select the Samsung monitor and ensure it's running at the recommended settings (e.g., 60Hz or higher, depending on the monitor’s capability).

Switch Display Modes:

  • Try duplicating or extending the display, instead of using only the external monitor, to see if the issue persists. You can switch display modes by pressing Windows Key + P and selecting different options.

Check Cable & Port Compatibility:

  • If you're using an HDMI or USB-C connection, ensure the cable supports the required bandwidth for high resolution and refresh rates. Switching to another cable or port might help eliminate a potential issue with the connection.

Disable Hardware Acceleration in Apps:

  • Some apps use hardware acceleration which might not play well with external monitors. Try disabling hardware acceleration for specific apps (like Chrome or video editing software) to see if it improves performance.

Check for Graphics Card Settings:

  • Since you're using a high-spec laptop, check if the dedicated GPU (NVIDIA or AMD) is managing the display instead of the integrated graphics. Open NVIDIA Control Panel (or AMD equivalent) and ensure the external display is being driven by the high-performance GPU.

Test with a Lower Resolution:

  • Temporarily lower the resolution to see if it eliminates the lag. If it works better at a lower resolution, the laptop may have trouble managing high display settings due to some driver or system resource issue.

Update Graphics Card Drivers:

  • Make sure your HP Omen 16 laptop has the latest GPU drivers. You can download the latest drivers from the NVIDIA or AMD website, depending on which graphics card your laptop uses.

BIOS/Chipset Driver Updates:

  • Sometimes, system-level updates like BIOS or chipset drivers can resolve compatibility issues with external monitors. Check HP’s website for any relevant updates for your laptop model.

Monitor Settings:

  • Explore the monitor’s own settings via its built-in menu. Look for any power-saving features or refresh rate options that might be causing the lag.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
