@SB-09, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're encountering an issue where the external monitor isn't functioning as expected when connected via the Type-C port. The error "display connection might be limited" could be related to several factors, including hardware, software, or even cable compatibility. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

Check the Cable and Port

Cable Type: Ensure you're using a high-quality USB Type-C to HDMI (or DisplayPort) cable if you're connecting to a monitor that requires HDMI or DisplayPort.

Port Condition: Inspect the Type-C port for any visible dirt, damage, or loose connections. Try plugging in and out a few times to ensure a stable connection.

Alternate Cable: Try using another cable to eliminate the possibility of a faulty cable.

Verify Monitor Compatibility

Resolution/Refresh Rate: Some monitors may not support the resolution or refresh rate that your laptop is attempting to output. Check the monitor’s specs and adjust the resolution on your laptop to something lower, such as 1080p (1920x1080).

Input Source: Ensure that the external monitor is set to the correct input source (e.g., HDMI or DisplayPort) corresponding to the cable you’re using.

Update Graphics Drivers

Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can cause issues when connecting external displays. Ensure you have the latest drivers installed.

Right-click Start and select Device Manager.

Expand the Display Adapters section.

Right-click your GPU and select Update Driver.

Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Check Display Settings

Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.

Scroll down to Multiple displays and select Extend these displays or Duplicate these displays from the dropdown menu.

Make sure the external display is selected and configured as you want it (extend, duplicate, etc.).

Adjust USB-C Settings

Some laptops have specific settings for USB-C ports that enable video output (DisplayPort Alt Mode).

Go to Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers.

Right-click on the USB Type-C Port driver and check for options like "Enable DisplayPort" or "Enable Video Output."

Check for Windows Updates

Sometimes, Microsoft releases patches that improve hardware compatibility. Check for updates:

Open Settings > Update & Security.

Click on Check for updates and install any available updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
