Hello,
At seemingly random times, when I click once using the touchpad, the laptop treats it as if I clicked twice on the same position. For example, in Chrome, when there are a bunch of tabs open and I click on the 'x' for one tab to close it, it closes it and the tab that takes its place when closed, which is very frustrating. Another example is when I click on the file explorer icon in the taskbar, it opens two file explorer windows.
I also noticed that when this issue occurs, a small lag occurs for a split second.
I tried playing with touchpad sensitivity and double-click speed settings, but it had no effect.
My Windows 10 system (v1903) is fully updated in terms of drivers, features, etc.
I checked that I have the latest version of the Synaptics touchpad driver and BIOS.
I have made no kind of hardware changes.
I want to ask HP to please make it possible for users to legitimately upgrade touchpad drivers for supported HP Spectre notebooks to Microsoft precision drivers (this means no side hacks to get the precision drivers to work), as that has become the industry standard for high-end personal laptops such as this one, which can already 100% support these better drivers.
I know that the new 13 inch Spectre x360 will have these drivers and the entire Envy line has them, so I really hope that other existing Spectre notebooks can have them integrated as well, as a means to resolve touchpad issues and enhance experience.
Thanks and in the meantime, is there any other possible fix I could try to resolve the clicking issue?

I suggest you run a Touchpad Test to confirm the Hardware Functionality
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the Notebook.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second.
- When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests and Touchpad
If all the Tests pass, download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...
HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook
-
Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
-
Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
-
Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
-
Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
-
Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.
Also ensure Windows is up to date.
Select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available
Keep me posted how it goes
Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊
