Hi, I can click on a music folder on my laptop and it gives me the option to play it on Windows Media Player.
When I copied my music onto a HP 64GB x900w USB 3.0 Flash Drive it does not show me that option. I can play individual songs but unable to play them consequently.
How do I change that?

Thank you, Kristine

@Phoenex, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like the USB drive is not behaving the same way as your laptop's internal storage when it comes to playing music consecutively in Windows Media Player. Here's how you can troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check AutoPlay Settings:

Sometimes, AutoPlay settings on your laptop can affect how files are handled when you connect a USB device.

Step 1: Plug your USB flash drive into your laptop.

Step 2: Open the Control Panel (you can search for it in the Start menu).

Step 3: Go to Hardware and Sound > AutoPlay.

Step 4: Under AutoPlay, make sure that for Music, the option is set to "Play in Windows Media Player" or another media player of your choice.

Step 5: Save any changes and eject the USB drive safely. Reinsert it and check if it now gives the option to play consecutively.

Ensure Files Are in the Correct Format:

Step 1: Check that the music files on your USB drive are in a format that Windows Media Player can play (such as MP3, WAV, or WMA). You can do this by right-clicking the file and selecting Properties to view its format.

Step 2: If your music is in a playlist (M3U, PLS, etc.), make sure it’s compatible with the player. You can try opening the playlist manually from within Windows Media Player and ensure that the files are being read correctly.

Check for Driver Updates:

The issue could also be related to a driver conflict with the USB device.

Step 1: Press the Windows key + X and select Device Manager.

Step 2: Look for Universal Serial Bus controllers and expand it.

Step 3: Right-click on the USB device (it may show as “USB Mass Storage Device”) and select Update Driver.

Step 4: Follow the prompts to search for updated drivers. If there are updates available, let Windows install them and see if that resolves the issue.

Ensure Media Player is Set as Default Player:

It's possible that another program has taken over as the default music player for your system.

Step 1: Go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps.

Step 2: Scroll down to Music Player and make sure Windows Media Player is selected as the default.

Step 3: Test if it now plays music consecutively from the USB drive.

Test With Another USB Port:

Sometimes the issue can be related to a specific USB port on your laptop. Try connecting the USB drive to a different port and see if the problem persists.

Try Playing in a Different Media Player:

If all else fails, you could try using another media player like VLC Media Player. These programs often handle playlists and media playback more flexibly.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
