Hi @Roxy08,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you received a pop-up message on your HP ENVY X360 laptop stating that the cooling system is not working and that your laptop will shut down in 15 seconds with a warning about files being deleted, this is a serious issue that needs immediate attention. Here are some steps to help you address the problem.

  • Immediate Action: If you haven't already, power off your laptop to prevent any potential damage due to overheating. Unplug it from the charger as well.
  • Cooling System Inspection: The error message suggests an issue with the laptop's cooling system. It might be clogged with dust or not functioning properly. Ensure that your laptop's vents and fans are not blocked or obstructed. You can use compressed air to gently clean out any dust.
  • Check for Overheating: Overheating can be a common cause of this issue. Make sure you're using your laptop on a hard, flat surface to allow proper airflow. Don't use it on soft surfaces like a bed or couch that can obstruct the cooling system.
  • Update Drivers: Outdated or corrupt drivers can cause cooling issues. Visit HP's official website and download the latest drivers for your laptop, especially those related to system management and cooling.
  • BIOS Update: Check if there is a BIOS update available for your laptop on the HP website. Sometimes, BIOS updates can improve thermal management.
  • HP Diagnostics: Many HP laptops come with built-in diagnostics. You can access this by pressing F2 during startup. Run a diagnostic test to check for hardware issues, including the cooling system.
  • Overheating Hardware: If your laptop continues to overheat despite cleaning and updating drivers, it might have a hardware problem, such as a malfunctioning fan or thermal paste.
  • Backup Important Data: If your laptop does not shut down immediately and you can access your files, it's crucial to back up your important data to an external drive or cloud storage as soon as possible.
  • Preventive Measures: To prevent future cooling issues, regularly clean the cooling system, keep your laptop on a hard, flat surface, and avoid running resource-intensive tasks for prolonged periods.

Please take this issue seriously, as overheating can lead to permanent damage to your laptop's components.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
