Hi @Sama_696.
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding keyboard layout issues on the HP Pavilion PC!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check Current Keyboard Layout:
- Verify the current keyboard layout setting. You may have inadvertently set your keyboard to a different language layout, such as UK English instead of US English.
Change Keyboard Layout in Windows Settings:
- Open Settings by pressing Win + I.
- Go to Time & Language > Language.
- Under the Preferred languages section, select your primary language (e.g., English (United States)).
- Click Options, then Add a keyboard.
- Choose the correct keyboard layout. Typically, for @ with Shift+2, you want "US QWERTY".
Remove Incorrect Keyboard Layout:
- If there are multiple keyboard layouts, remove any that are incorrect.
- Click on the incorrect layout under Keyboards and select Remove.
Switch Keyboard Layout Using Taskbar:
- Sometimes, Windows 10/11 may have multiple keyboard layouts enabled. Switch between layouts by clicking on the keyboard icon in the taskbar and selecting the correct layout.
Advanced Settings
Language Preferences:
- Go to Settings > Time & Language > Region & language.
- Ensure the Country or region is set to United States (or your preferred country).
Override Keyboard Preferences:
- Click on Administrative language settings.
- Under the Language for non-Unicode programs, choose Change system locale and set it to English (United States).
Quick Keyboard Layout Shortcut
Windows allows you to quickly switch between keyboard layouts using shortcuts:
- Alt + Shift: Toggles between installed keyboard layouts.
- Ctrl + Shift: Changes keyboard layout when multiple layouts are installed.
I hope this helps.
