Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

Every time I type on my laptop, the cursor keeps jumping to the start of the line. If I want to type “act” it types “tca” instead. I tried updating the drivers. I uninstalled the keyboard drivers and it still it giving problems. I also reset the computer but no help.

Randomly it started working normal but then it started to give problems again. I really need some help.

Hi @seal_ica

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP laptop. Cursor jumping can be quite frustrating. While updating drivers is a good first step, there are a few other troubleshooting methods you can try to resolve this problem.

  • Disable the touchpad: Sometimes, accidental touches on the touchpad can cause the cursor to jump. You can try disabling the touchpad temporarily to see if that resolves the issue. Most laptops have a designated function key combination (e.g., Fn + F6) or a specific touchpad button to disable it. Check your laptop's user manual for the specific key combination or button.
  • Clean the touchpad: Dust, dirt, or debris on the touchpad surface can interfere with its sensitivity and cause erratic cursor movements. Use a soft cloth or microfiber cloth to gently clean the touchpad.
  • Adjust touchpad settings: There might be specific touchpad settings on your laptop that can help alleviate cursor jumping issues. Go to the Control Panel or Settings on your laptop, search for "Mouse" or "Touchpad" settings, and look for options related to sensitivity, palm rejection, or touchpad delay. Adjusting these settings might help reduce unwanted cursor movements.
  • Update the BIOS: The laptop's BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is responsible for controlling hardware functions. Sometimes, updating the BIOS can fix issues related to the touchpad. Visit HP's official website, enter your laptop model, and check if there are any available BIOS updates. If there are, follow the instructions provided to update the BIOS.
  • Check for physical issues: It's possible that there's a hardware problem causing the cursor jumping. Ensure there are no loose connections or damaged components. If you're comfortable doing so, you can also try reseating the touchpad connector (if accessible) by following the laptop's disassembly instructions

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
