HP Spectre 360 13-ap0013dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hello! I recently fresh installed Windows 10 on my laptop, and now my keyboard/touchpad won't turn off when I flip it around or turn on tablet mode. I've looked for any rotation settings or keyboard settings and don't see anything. I've tried to update any intel rotate (whatever its called in full) or keyboard drivers I could find and usually get told there aren't any or no updates. I can't use my built in keyboard usually because my number keys don't work and it sucks majorly to not be able to flip the computer around. I'd also take any way to just turn off my keyboard and trackpad since I have the external keyboard.

@likethesoda, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

I understand you're facing an issue where the keyboard and touchpad remain active when rotating your HP Spectre x360 13-ap0013dx into tablet mode, especially after a fresh install of Windows 10.

Here are the steps to resolve this:

Install HP Drivers and Software via HP Support Assistant

Download and install HP Support Assistant from here:
HP Support Assistant | HP® Support

Launch HP Support Assistant and let it detect your device.

Install all recommended drivers and firmware updates, especially:

  • HP 3D DriveGuard
  • HP System Event Utility
  • Intel Serial IO Driver
  • Intel Integrated Sensor Solution
  • Intel Chipset Drivers
  • HP Hotkey Support

These components are essential for proper detection of tablet mode and disabling the keyboard/touchpad when rotated.

Manually Install Missing Drivers (if needed)

If HP Support Assistant doesn’t install everything, you can manually download drivers from your product’s support page:

Official HP® Support

Look for:

  • HP System Event Utility
  • Intel Integrated Sensor Solution
  • Intel Serial IO Driver
  • HP Hotkey Support

Enable Tablet Mode and Rotation Settings

  1. Go to Settings > System > Tablet.
  2. Ensure “When I sign in” is set to “Use tablet mode” or “Always ask me before switching”.
  3. Go to Settings > Display and ensure Rotation Lock is turned off.
  4. Try rotating the device to see if it switches to tablet mode and disables the keyboard/touchpad.

Check Services and Sensor Functionality

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Ensure the following services are Running and set to Automatic:
    • Sensor Monitoring Service
    • Sensor Service
    • TabletInputService

Optional Workaround – Disable Keyboard/Touchpad Manually

If the above steps don’t work and you need a temporary workaround:

  • Use Device Manager to disable the internal keyboard and touchpad manually:
    1. Press Win + X > Device Manager.
    2. Expand Keyboards and Mice and other pointing devices.
    3. Right-click on the internal keyboard/touchpad and choose Disable device.

⚠️ Note: This disables them completely until re-enabled.

I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!
