I have an HP laptop (15s fq5007TU) running Windows 11. For the past two days, I'm facing serious issues with the keyboard and external mouse. The keyboard keys don’t respond properly, and mouse clicks often fail. The Start menu closes automatically, and I can't type in the search bar because the cursor doesn't appear. I'm unable to type anything at all. I’m not sure what’s causing this.

Here’s what I’ve already tried, but nothing worked:

  • Created a new local user account

  • Used a system restore point

  • Booted into Safe Mode

  • Reset the PC

  • Removed all external devices

  • Scanned for viruses (none found)

  • Uninstalled McAfee

Please help me fix this issue. I’m out of options.

@Abhay63, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it must be to deal with unresponsive keyboard and mouse issues, especially after trying so many steps already. Let's go through a few targeted troubleshooting steps that may help resolve this issue on your HP 15s-fq5007TU running Windows 11.

Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics

This tool checks for hardware faults in the keyboard, touchpad, and mouse.

  • Download and run the tool: HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Support
  • After installation, press Esc during startup and select F2 to enter diagnostics.
  • Run the Keyboard Test and Mouse Test to check for hardware issues.

Check for Filter Keys and Accessibility Settings

Sometimes Windows accessibility features interfere with input devices.

  • Go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard
  • Turn Off options like Sticky Keys, Filter Keys, and Toggle Keys

Update or Reinstall Input Drivers

Corrupted or outdated drivers can cause erratic behavior.

  • Open Device Manager (Right-click Start > Device Manager)
  • Expand Keyboards and Mice and other pointing devices
  • Right-click each device > Uninstall device
  • Restart your PC to reinstall drivers automatically

You can also manually update drivers from HP Software & Driver Downloads

BIOS Update

An outdated BIOS can cause hardware compatibility issues.

  • Visit your laptop’s support page: Official HP® Support
  • Download and install the latest BIOS version available

External Keyboard/Mouse Test

If you haven’t already, try using a wired USB keyboard and mouse. If they work fine, the issue may be with the laptop’s internal input hardware.

Consider a System Recovery

If none of the above work and the issue persists even after a reset, a factory recovery might help.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, it may be a hardware fault requiring service. In that case, please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - India | HP® Support
(Select the country from the dropdown menu and enter the city name or pincode)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
