Please I my keyboard was working perfectly well but this morning I turned it on and the keyboard was misbehaving. When CAPLOCK is on, it still shows lower case letters, the numbers are not working; when you press 2 it move the cursor down like arrow keys. Even if you have not press SHIFT key, the top keys keeps on showing. Because of this I installed new windows 11 this morning but the same issue persist. Please I really need help. I'm frustrated

Hi @Daya12,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can feel how frustrating this must be, especially after reinstalling Windows and still seeing the same keyboard issues. The fact that the problem persists even after a fresh OS install strongly suggests this is not a software issue, but rather a hardware or keyboard layout setting problem. Let’s go through the troubleshooting steps:

Why This Happens

  • Stuck modifier keys (Shift, Fn, Ctrl) or a faulty keyboard matrix.
  • Incorrect keyboard layout (e.g., switched to another language).
  • Hardware failure in the keyboard circuit.
  • Accessibility features like Sticky Keys or Filter Keys are turned on.

Recommended Fix

1. Check Keyboard Layout

  • Go to Settings → Time & Language → Language & Region → Keyboard Layout.
  • Ensure it’s set to US QWERTY (or your preferred layout).
  • Remove any extra layouts.

2. Disable Accessibility Features

  • Go to Settings → Accessibility → Keyboard.
  • Turn Sticky Keys, Filter Keys, and Toggle Keys OFF.

3. Test in BIOS

  • Restart your PC and press Esc → F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Try typing in BIOS fields (like password or notes).
  • If the issue persists in BIOS, it’s hardware-related.

4. External Keyboard Test

  • Connect a USB keyboard.
  • If the external keyboard works fine, your notebook keyboard likely needs replacement.

5. HP Hardware Diagnostics

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
