Hello. The red light in the middle lighting section of my computer keyboard never turns off. Even though I installed a new Windows on my computer, it did not fix it. How can I fix it without sending it to service? I don't think it is a hardware defect. I did not drop or damage my computer. I recently formatted it software-wise and it didn't fix it.

Hi @Alperen4,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the red light in the middle lighting section of your OMEN 16.1 Inch Gaming Laptop keyboard is not turning off even after reinstalling Windows, there are a few steps you can take to try and resolve the issue before resorting to sending it for service. It's possible that this is a software or driver-related issue, and not necessarily a hardware defect.
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow.
Check OMEN Control Center: The OMEN Control Center is the software that manages the keyboard lighting and other settings for your laptop. Ensure that you have the latest version of this software installed. You can download it from the official HP website if needed.
Update Keyboard Drivers: Outdated or corrupt keyboard drivers can cause lighting issues. Make sure your keyboard drivers are up-to-date. You can do this through the Device Manager on Windows.
- a. Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
- b. Expand the "Keyboards" section, right-click on your keyboard device, and select "Update driver."
- c. Follow the on-screen instructions to search for and install any available driver updates.
OMEN Light Studio: OMEN laptops often come with a feature called "OMEN Light Studio" that allows you to customize keyboard lighting effects. Check if any custom lighting effects have been applied. Resetting these settings to default may solve the issue.
BIOS Update: Sometimes, a BIOS update can resolve hardware-related issues. Visit the HP website to check if there is a BIOS update available for your laptop and follow the instructions to update it.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- a. Turn off your laptop.
- b. Disconnect the AC adapter and any peripherals.
- c. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
- d. Reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the laptop.
Check for Physical Damage: Carefully inspect the keyboard area for any physical damage, like liquid spills or loose connections. Sometimes, such damage can cause erratic behavior in keyboard lighting.
Create a New User Profile: Create a new user profile on your Windows system and see if the issue persists when logged in as a different user. This can help determine if the problem is user-specific.
Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can try a factory reset. Ensure that you back up all your important data before doing this.
Remember to exercise caution when making changes to your laptop's settings or drivers, as incorrect settings or driver updates can potentially cause other issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
