Hi @Allyssa04,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you’re experiencing could be caused by a hardware or software problem. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve it.

Check for Stuck or Malfunctioning Keys

  • Carefully inspect your keyboard for stuck keys, especially the Windows key, Alt key, or Ctrl key. These keys can trigger shortcuts like opening File Explorer (Win+E) or Help (F1 or Win+H).
  • Clean the keyboard gently with compressed air to remove dust or debris.

Test the Keyboard

  • Use an external USB keyboard to see if the issue persists. If the external keyboard works fine, the issue is likely with your laptop’s built-in keyboard.

Run Keyboard Troubleshooter

  • On Windows:
    1. Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
    2. Navigate to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
    3. Select Keyboard and run the troubleshooter.

Update Keyboard Driver

  • Go to Device Manager:
    1. Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand Keyboards.
    3. Right-click your keyboard and choose Update driver.
  • Restart your computer after updating the driver.

Check for Sticky Keys or Accessibility Settings

  • Open Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard (or Ease of Access > Keyboard on older versions).
  • Ensure that Sticky Keys, Filter Keys, and Toggle Keys are turned off.

Scan for Malware

  • Malware can cause unusual keyboard behavior. Perform a full scan using Windows Security or a trusted antivirus program.

Perform a Clean Boot

  • Disable unnecessary startup programs to rule out software conflicts:
    1. Press Windows key + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
    2. Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and click Disable all.
    3. Restart your computer and test the keyboard.

Reset the Keyboard Layout

  • Open Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region.
  • Ensure the correct keyboard layout is selected for your language.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
