I HAVE PURCHASED A PAVILION LAPTOP FROM HP WITH WINDOWS INSTALLED, I HAVE JUST TRIED TO USE WORD AND XL AND WHEN I GO TO USE IT I AM REQUESTED TO ACTIVATE WINDOWS , WHEN I TRY TO ACTIVATE WINDOWS I AM ASKED TO EITHER HAVE A FREE MONTHS TRIAL OR PAY TO HAVE IT INSTALLED . WHEN I CHECK THE SYSTEM TO SEE IF WINDOWS IS INSTALLED IT SAYS WINDOWS IS ACTIVE

Probably somehow you mixed them up, you need to activate Office (Word , Excel ... ) but not Windows. What is your machine ? Probably it has Office Trial version, you have to pay Microsoft to get a key to activate.
