Hi @Arven-66,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for sharing that — a black screen with the power light turning on briefly and then shutting off is a serious hardware-level issue, but there are a few things you can try before assuming the worst.
1. Power Reset (Hard Reset)
This clears any static charge that might be preventing startup:
- Unplug the power adapter.
- Remove the battery (if it's removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and power adapter.
- Try turning it on again.
2. Check for Signs of Life
- Do you hear any fan noise, beeps, or keyboard backlight?
- If yes, the issue might be with the display or RAM.
- If not, it could be a motherboard or power supply issue.
3. BIOS Restore:
1) Shut down the computer, keep the charger plugged in
2) Hold down the Windows and B buttons together while the computer is still turned off.
3) Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B buttons until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.
4) Follow the on-screen instructions and click on OK.
4. Try an External Monitor
To check if the screen is the problem:
- Connect your HP laptop to an external monitor or TV via HDMI.
- Power on the laptop.
- Press Fn + F4 (or the key with a monitor icon) to switch displays.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
