Hi @Arven-66,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for sharing that — a black screen with the power light turning on briefly and then shutting off is a serious hardware-level issue, but there are a few things you can try before assuming the worst.

1. Power Reset (Hard Reset)

This clears any static charge that might be preventing startup:

  1. Unplug the power adapter.
  2. Remove the battery (if it's removable).
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the battery and power adapter.
  5. Try turning it on again.

2. Check for Signs of Life

  • Do you hear any fan noisebeeps, or keyboard backlight?
  • If yes, the issue might be with the display or RAM.
  • If not, it could be a motherboard or power supply issue.

3. BIOS Restore:

1) Shut down the computer, keep the charger plugged in

2) Hold down the Windows and B buttons together while the computer is still turned off.

3) Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B buttons until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.

4) Follow the on-screen instructions and click on OK.

4. Try an External Monitor

To check if the screen is the problem:

  1. Connect your HP laptop to an external monitor or TV via HDMI.
  2. Power on the laptop.
  3. Press Fn + F4 (or the key with a monitor icon) to switch displays.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
