Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So recently

my laptop received 2 updates for the mouse drivers:

Synaptics - Mouse version 19.5.35.47

Hp Inc. - HIDClass version 2.1.11.1

Once these drivers were updated through Windows Update I turned the laptop off. Today I switched my laptop on and immediately noticed that any click or tap done on the ClickPad would be registered as a right click making it very difficult to actually access anything. I tried to update the drivers through device manager yet it said that both drivers are up to date. After going through all the mouse settings and the Synaptics settings, I contacted Microsoft about the issue. One of their agents remotely controlled my laptop to try and find the issue (which took over an hour). Eventually, after rolling back the main mouse driver (Synaptics SMBus Clickpad) to multiple versions that they had found both on the computer and through HP's own website, the only driver which actually allowed the left click to be registered at all was the PS/2 Compatible Mouse driver which was one of the drivers available already on the laptop to use.

The Microsoft agent told me to test my mouse with this driver enabled which I did and the left click and right click worked mostly bow they were supposed to. However with this driver enabled, I cannot use any gestures on the trackpad, nor can I click down on the majority of the trackpad for it to be registered as a left click like I should be able to. Instead the bottom left half if clicked down is a left click and the bottom right half being for the right click, but the remaining area if tapped works as a left click but if clicked nothing is registered at all.

The Microsoft agent did advise me that the driver update which occurred may not be compatible with my device therefore why it didn't register a left click.

So, where do I go from here? I want my mouse fully functioning again including all the gestures just like it used to.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Firstly, perform Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8.

Next step, BIOS default: (If steps might be repeated please do not skip any)

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Once its update the system software and driver using Windows Update and HP Support Assistant:

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

If this fails you can perform Microsoft system restore:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03327545
Note: System Restore returns your computer to the files and settings from the restore point. Your personal files and documents are not affected.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
