HP Pavilion
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought a HP Pavilion with the following specificatons

-Intel core i7-8750H CPU

-Nvidia GTX 1050ti

-Windows 10

-8GB ram

My laptop can run games like fifa19 smoothly at 60fps when it’s running on battery but whenever it’s plugged in the frame rates drop in a massive amount,I can only enjoy games for like an hour because of it & can’t do much.So I would be very greatful if any of you can tell me how to fix this.I’ve tried changing the power plans by balancing the multimedia option,The performance while plugged in improved a little bit but it’s not even close to how it is when it’s running on Battery,The graphics are outstanding when it’s running on Battery but it becomes just as crappy when it’s plugged in,Please help me solve this issue,It’s really getting irritating day by day and I’ve just bought this laptop like two weeks ago and it’s very disheartening to see it work like this

My guess is that the issue is entirely different -- in that Windows Udpate is running ONLY when the charger is plugged it, and not when you are running on battery. I know that sounds crazy, but it's worth checking out.

With a Win10 PC, you're almost always going to experience a very slow PC at times because Windows Update (WU) is hogging your PC, searching for, downloading, and installing updates -- to bring your PC up to the most current version of Windows.

To find out what version and build of Win10 your PC is running, with the charger connected, do the following:
1) enter "cmd" (without the quotes) into the search area and select the Command Prompt option
2) enter "winver" into the command window (again, without the quotes)
3) the most current Win10 is v1809 Build 17763.316

If yours is older than that, most likely WU is hogging your PC trying to update it.

To disable WU temporarily, do the following:
1) Enter "services" in the search area (again, without the quotes)
2) When the window opens, scroll down until you see Windows Update
3) If it say Running under status, that indicates that WU is running
4) To change that, double-click on that task, select Stop under the Service status, and then Apply
5) That should stop WU -- and you should see an immediate improvement in performance

WU will restart itself automatically later on, so you basically have no choice than to bear with it until it finishes.

Thanks for your reply and I did exactly as you suggested.

Yes,I have an older version of Windows(V1803,Build 17134.523)

And I couldn’t find anything named “Windows Update”/“WU” in the Services,But I did found something similar which was named “Windows Update Medic Service” which is not in “running” under status while the laptop is Plugged in.
The specefications & infos of my laptops are-
Name-HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-cx0110TX
Serial No- CND8395HDW
Processor-Intel core i7 8th gen 8750H
GPU-Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti
Ram-8GB DDR4 and I added another 8GB DDR4
OS-Windows 10 (V1803,Build-17134.523)

MY PROBLEM IS:-
The laptop lags while playing games when it’s plugged in & runs smoothly when it’s running on battery

THE SOLVES I HAVE TRIED:-
1.I tried to create a new Power plan with the “High Performance Settings” and went to Advance Power settings and Changed the Multimedia>When playing video to “Balanced” instead of “Optimize Video quality”.It improved the performance a little but it didn’t run as Smooth as it runs while it’s in Battery.
2.Follow the steps that you (@WAWood) have suggested and the results have been written above.

THE DISCOVERY I’VE MADE-
When I plug in the Charger there’s a Message that is shown from HP about Smart Adapter
“HP offers a Wide Range of Smart Adapter for your convinience, replacement, and travel needs.Find these accessories and more at select retailers.
The Smart AC Adapter connected will power your Computer,But potentially at reduced performance level,Your computer is designed to vary performance as needed when a smaller capacity Smart AC Adapter is Connected.Resource Intensive tasks may cause your system not to perform at its highest level with a smaller capacity Smart AC Adapter. Please Connect a Higher
Capacity Smart AC Adapter for full Performance.
Thank you for choosing an HP Product!”

So We can Clearly see that the problem is with the ADAPTER but I’m Confused which Adapter should I buy & what is the power requirement for the adapter that will enable my laptop to run at its Full performance.Information related to my laptop are all given Above,Plz Tell me which Adapter should I buy and what should be it’s Power Requirement,The Current one I have is 150W(or at least it’s written in the right side of the adapter).Any help regarding this issue would be a great help,I look forward to the solution of this problem

@Abrar612

I'm mystified as to why you did not find a service named "Windows Update" in the Services list because even if it is not running, it should still be there.

As to the battery, my suggestion is to use this link to get a parts list for your model PC and then look through that for the battery part number:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-dv6-6c00-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/5191856/mo...

Sometimes, HP replaces an older model battery with a newer one, so the part numbers change.

I am confused myself since I didn’t find it there but I just hope I find the right adapter which enables the laptop to perform at its full potential, btw is there any adapter with more capacity than 150W?I’m sorry for asking such a silly question but I have limited knowledge when it comes to technology,Thanks for taking the time to help me out!

@Abrar612

You need to use the charger that is rated for this model PC, not the most powerful one you can find.

More power does not equate to better results, but instead, runs the risk of damaging the PC.
