My HP Envy Laptop keeps beeping. It is like a low-pitched hum every 10 - 15 seconds. I presume it's because my fans are supposedly not working correctly. (I get the blue screen telling me so whenever my computer boots back up...but I've also had zero problems with overheating and stuff). I recently took my computer in to the shop to check the fans and nothing was wrong with them though....so I'm not sure. Either way I REALLY need the beeping to stop! Not just in the sense of it's annoying but because I need to use my laptop to take an in-class exam and it will distract me and everyone around me so much. I'm not looking for any long-term fixes right now, just a quick fix to get it to be quiet!! Like if there is some sort of setting I can turn off?

Hi @jaystraus,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for explaining the situation so clearly. We understand you need a quick way to stop the beeping, especially for your exam.

From what you described:

  • Repeating beep every 10–15 seconds
  • Blue screen mentioning a fan issue
👉 This is most likely a BIOS hardware alert (fan warning), not just normal sound.

Quick ways to STOP the beeping

Option 1: Disable system sounds (fastest)

  1. Right-click Speaker icon → Sounds
  2. Go to the Sounds tab
  3. Under “Program Events”, find:
    • Default Beep
  4. Set it to None
  5. Click Apply

👉 This can silence the beep if it’s coming through Windows audio.

Option 2: Mute the system speaker

  • Plug in headphones OR
  • Lower system volume to 0

👉 Works immediately if the beep is routed through audio.

Option 3: Use HP Command Center

  1. Open HP Command Center
  2. Go to Thermal Profile
  3. Set to Quiet mode

This can reduce fan-related alerts/noise

Option 4: Disable beep in BIOS

  1. Restart laptop
  2. Press F10 repeatedly (enter BIOS)
  3. Look for options like:
    • POST Beep
    • Fan error warning
  4. Disable it (if available)

👉 This directly stops the hardware alert sound

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
