According to HP Products, my laptop is not under warranty. I am wondering if this is in any way connected to my laptop frequently crashing and restarting without warning. Below are details of my device.

Model: HP Pavilion 16 inch Laptop PC 16-ag000 (955U3AV)

Product Number: A09CCUA

Error Message: "We were unable to find and HP warranty that matches your product information"

Hi @AidanDausman, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Frequent crashes and restarts can be caused by several factors, including overheating, driver issues, hardware failures, or software conflicts. Let's go through a few steps to diagnose and fix the issue.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Check for Overheating

Since your device is a Pavilion gaming laptop, heat buildup could be an issue, especially if the cooling system isn’t working properly.

  • Use HWMonitor or Core Temp to check CPU & GPU temperatures.
  • If temperatures are above 85°C under load, consider cleaning the fans and repasting the CPU/GPU.

Review Event Viewer Logs

  • Open Event Viewer (Win + R → type eventvwr → Enter).
  • Go to Windows Logs > System and check for critical errors or warnings before crashes.
  • Look for errors like "Kernel-Power" (Event ID 41) or BSOD error codes.

Update or Roll Back Drivers

  • Update GPU drivers via HP Support Assistant or manually from NVIDIA/AMD.
  • Update BIOS from HP website.
  • If issues started after an update, roll back drivers via Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager > Display Adapters > Properties > Driver > Roll Back).

Check RAM & Storage Health

  • Run Windows Memory Diagnostic (Win + R → mdsched.exe → Restart & Check).
  • Use CrystalDiskInfo to check your SSD/HDD health.

Run System File & DISM Repair

  • Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run: sfc /scannow
    Then run: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Check Power Settings

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options and set it to High Performance.
  • Disable Fast Startup (Win + X > Power Options > Choose what power buttons do > Disable Fast Startup).

Perform a Clean Boot

To check if third-party apps are causing crashes:

  • Open MSConfig (Win + R → msconfig).
  • Under Services, check "Hide all Microsoft services" and Disable all.
  • Under Startup, open Task Manager and disable startup programs.
  • Restart and see if crashes persist.

Run HP Diagnostics

  • Press F2 during boot to enter HP Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run extensive tests on memory, storage, and CPU.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
