Hi

I just turned on my laptop and it says ‘Your PIN is no longer available due to a change to the security settings on this device. Click to set your PIN again.

Clicking doesn’t do anything.

I didn’t change the pin. What could this be and how do I get into my laptop.

Thanks

@Ana37

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)

BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer

And, also refer to the article: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04648973

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately, I still have the same issue.

At the Laptop log in page, I am told 'Your PIN is no longer available due to a change to the security settings on this device. Click to set up your PIN again.

I click Set up PIN and it brings me to a Microsoft account box which has my email automatically entered and I fill in the password.

It beings me to a back up/alternativeto email address but this is not an email address I recognise.

On 14 July, I googled what to do and it said to change the security settings so I did and now it tells me I have to wait longer for the changes to come into effect.

I can hear alerts coming into the background but just can't access them until I can log in.

You asked if it was a security update and I dk t know. I used the laptop in the morning, logged out but didn't shut down at lunch and then when I came back this had happened.

Thanks

@Ana37

Disconnect the wireless connection and then try the pin.

Let me know how it goes.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.
