Lately I’ve been noticing that my laptop would shut off without warning, even if the battery isn’t low. Last time it shut off I checked its temperature, and it was barely hot, so I don’t think overheating is the problem. Does anyone know what’s going on? It’s there a possible bug in my laptop?
Thank you.

Hi @KShackel,
Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! As I understand the device is shuts down unexpectedly,
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?
Have you checked if the computer shuts down in the Bios?
Does the laptop shutdown right away if the charger is disconnected from the laptop?
Did you try updating the BIOS to resolve the issue? (If not, please Click here to find and install it)
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the notebook:
Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:
-
If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.
If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.
-
With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.
-
With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.
-
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.
Next thing, I would suggest here is to boot the computer into the Bios screen using F10 key and check if it shuts down without any warning.
Turn off your computer
2. Make sure you have connected the power cable
3. Turn on your notebook, as it is starting press the F10 button repeatedly
I recommend checking if the issue appears on the BIOS screen (restart the computer and tap on F10 to access BIOS)
If the computer shuts down even in the Bios screen then this would confirm that it's a possible hardware failure. If the computer stays on in the Bios, then it's a possible software or driver issue.
Once you restart the computer, I would suggest here is to update the Bios and Chipset drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.
