Hi (Forum Newbie here. 14-dg001 Windows 10 Home 22H2 OS Build 19045.4780),
My HP laptop has been operating very slowly
for some time now. Most of its problems seems to be caused
by the following three issues.
1. It is constantly attempting upgrades I neither need nor want
2. Internet in my area is tragically slow and unreliable

3. System Operating software is hogging most of my CPU space and speed
I have attempted the following to remedy these issues.

Upgrades
a. Delay upgrades via System window as often as possible
b. Disable Windows Update via control panel

Internet
a. Leave internet access off on the PC whilst at home
b. Travel to local Broadband Internet access point to perform
internet-reliant activities

OS
a. Store almost all data files on external devices
b. Upgrade OS as frequently as possible within the above
restrictions

Other Issues
Most recently, I have been unable to 'pause' updates, meaning
my laptop is struggling to operate at all due it seeking 'security'
updates that are not available to it. In other words classic Microsoft
Catch 22 behaviour.
I believe the problem here is that a Dec 2024 (KB5048652) package
is not loading or installing correctly. I have tried manually downloading
it but it notified me it 'was not installed'. The 700Mb file should be
capable of fitting on my hard drive, with around 3.2 GB available.
But, of course, I have no control over how much data my system
is chewing up.
I use a variety of PCs, laptops and Mac platforms. I only seem to
have these kind of problems with HPs. Why?
And no, I have NO Group Policy access/files etc. so that doesn't work.
And now I have greyed out Pause and Scheduled upgrade options,
AND HP?MS has just chewed up all but 1.6GB of my hard drive (for
no reason that I can see).
