HP Pavilion 14
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello

I recently bouht an HP Pavilion 14. I am running Windows 8.1 and planning to upgrade to Windows 10 (the upgrade icon is flashing but i am postponing it). All the drivers are up-to-date.

The problem I am facing is that the laptop goes on stadby when the battery icon hits 40% (standby because that's the setting of my power plan - HP recommended settings). Initially, this was used to happen at 30%, but it has started doing so at 40% since a day or two. The laptop has decent battery life according to me (haven't actually measured it), so I believe the battery icon is displaying the battery percentage incorrectly.  HP Support Assistant's battery check supports my conclusion as the test shows my battery status as OK.

I checked at a number of forums, even here, and everybody mentioned recalibrating the battery as a possible solution. I have tried draining the battery completely and charging to 100%, but that did not work.

Please suggest possible solutions/ideas that might work. Thanks!

40% and dies is signal the battery is not longer good. All indicators is not a something one should use as test. If you can't get it to stay 100% when plugged in and fully charge that means the battery can't hold a charge properly anymore.

The battery does charge to 100% to fully charge and HP's Battery Scan tool says the battery is OK.

Powering off at 40% tells one the battery is in itself already bad when not plugged in.

Problem solved. In a rather unorthodox way.

I was charging my laptop from ~6-7% and pulled the plug when the batter showed 26%. The laptop didn't turn off and now it doesn't have that problem.
