Pavillion Notebook

This seems like a relatively simple problem that I can't solve - how do I change the settings for a double keystroke that is supposed to be there when I type, not an accidental double click. I have searched and can only seem to set it for 0.3 of a second (or something similar) but this is not enough as I often find that letters are missing from words when I am typing because my laptop thinks I am doing an accidental double keystroke, when it is supposed to be a double letter.

Eg, letter appears as leter, appear is apear, sleep as slep etc.  I am not a particularly fast typer so this must be a common issue?
