Hi,
My laptop powers off after a short time on battery, even when the battery is over 80%. I have done a battery check and it came back fine. An operating system check came back fine. A performance tune-up has been done. The power plan is HP recommended. What else could it be?
Thank you

Hello @kmtnmm
How did you perform the battery tests? from the HP support assistant or did you restart the computer and access Diagnostics via F2 (more accurate)?
If not, then plug the power cord in and press the power button and rapidly tap F2 until the diagnostics tool appears.
Run the power check for Battery and also AC Adapter test. The battery is about 3 years old now and its not unusual for one to go bad by now. If the battery is bad, it has a better chance of being detected this way.
Let me know what happens.

Hi. Thank you and yes to all above. I have done all of these things and get back messages that battery is fine and so on. Have done it both via F2 and by downloading the HP software and got the same result each time. Using deduction and the particular set of variables, I wonder if somehow the battery is not being engaged when the power is removed. I don't know if this is possible as a hardware issue, but it would account for why nothing tests as faulty but the battery drains quickly. I'm thinking that it perhaps goes onto the 2nd battery (I believe there is one), and so shuts down quickly. This would also align with getting no messages about battery running down because from memory, they only come when you are on the main battery.
What do you think? Is this possible?

Well there isnt any 2nd battery that I have ever heard of. Unless you mean the little cmos battery on the motherboard and it couldnt run off of that. That only keeps the time accurate in the bios.
Its entirely possible the diagnostics is just not picking up the battery issue. A weak cell can cause this and its happend before.
I havent experienced any other cause for your type of issue than a bad battery. Just my opinion.
