HP Notebook 15-ay011nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Starting yesterday, my HP notebook won't create a forward slash or question mark, which are on the same key, of course.  At first I thought it was a problem with my wireless keyboard, but the same thing happens (or *doesn't* happen) when I use the keyboard on the computer.

Specifically, when I press the forward slash key or Shift+forward slash, nothing is displayed and the cursor does not move.

Since the same thing happens with both the external keyboard and the native keyboard, I assume it's not a dirty key or other mechanical issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Tom,

Have you tried changing the Keyboard layout and language In Windows? Perhaps the fact of changing it from whatever you use now, to something else, then back again may work also (to reset it).

If that does not help, I would try reverting Windows to a previous restore point prior to this incident occuring.

After posting my initial message I downloaded the HP Support Assistant app, which suggested a bunch of updates to download.  After that process was done, my keyboard was working properly again.  There's no obvious connection between the content of the updates and my keyboard problem, but what the hey!

I didn't get to try your solution, Photoray002, but thanks for the quick response!

Unfortunately, the problem is recurring intermittently.   Earlier this morning that key was not working; now it is.

Very strange. Does it still do this with a USB keyboard also (as you mentioned earlier)? If so, this is the confusing part which would indicate software interference.

Have you went ahead and tried re-establishing the US keyboard language and layout?

Other than that, I am at a loss.
