HP nx9420 T7500
Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)

Hi,

1)  The Bluetooth device is not found  how to enable it ? Wifi found OK.

2)   there are two device in the Device settings what has the Hazard icon

How would I know within the list of Device drivers on the HP site which one would clear these icons ?

3) Is there a specific order install the device drivers ?

4) How do I use the Smart card reader , and what is it meant for ?

Which best OS would use the PCMCIA Port and efficiently use all the features of the hardware.

Vista can't detect the PCMCIA port.

Else the laptop is fantastic for its age.

Hi:

That would be the right part.

You would have to look at chapter 5 to see if you are up to installing it.  Starting on page 5-11.

It would require extensive dissembly of the notebook.

You would need to make sure you get one that comes with the cable too.

The service manual is good for all variations of the nx9420.

You can enter the product number  GJ968US in the box at the link below to see the list of parts.

http://partsurfer.hp.com/search.aspx

You will find that this isn't of much help, since the parts list shows every option that could have come with that model series.

Hi:

I will only be able to try and help you with the drivers.

First of all I will need to know the names of the devices with the hazard signs.

Then please post the hardware ID's for those devices.  Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID.

https://www.howtogeek.com/193798/how-to-find-drivers-for-unknown-devices-in-the-device-manager/

Normally when the bluetooth is not showing up it means one of two things...

1. Your model did not come with bluetooth.  That is an option that some notebooks of the same model series don't have.

2. If you know your notebook came with bluetooth, most likely you need to install the bluetooth driver as well as the HP wireless assistant software to turn the bluetooth on.

Install the wireless assistant software first, and restart the PC.

This package contains the HP Wireless Assistant for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The HP Wireless Assistant is a user application that provides a way to control the enablement of individual wireless devices (such as Bluetooth, WLAN, or WWAN devices) and that shows the state of the radios for these wireless devices.

Here is the bluetooth driver and software to install:

This package contains the software required to support the HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth Wireless Technology. The HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth Wireless Technology provides wireless connectivity to other devices from the integrated module of the supported notebooks.

You're very welcome, Alain.

This one driver will install both of those devices...

This package contains the driver for the Texas Instruments PCI (TI-PCI) Cardbus (Media Card Reader) for the supported notebook/laptop models and operating systems.

Hi,

Fine!!!  Great !!! all hazards gone. But were is the bluetooth device (the hardware) ?

When I run the sp34275 I get this error message "This installer be run on Windows Vista Only"

and  the OS is  Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit.

Otherwise I'll need to plug a Bluetooth dongle

   Thanks helping me out.

That's interesting in that file comes right from your notebook's support page.

The only other suggestion I can offer would be to try a different version of the HPWA.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34001-34500/sp34196.exe

It is also possible that your notebook didn't come with built in bluetooth networking.

That was a pretty rare option back then.

Some nx9420's had it and some didn't.

Is it true to say that the Bluetooth is builtin the WiFi card ?

If I get a recent one and replace it,  should it be done ?

I have two HP nx9420  the 32bit One is fine except it power's on only when on the DOCK STATION I found that after buying

the 64bit one. Any way I am happy with both ..until I set everything correctly on the 64bit then I'll send the 32bit for cleaning and/or repair. As I need it for development.

The bluetooth is not important, still I want to know why !

Else where is written the MODEL Number? there seems to be a lot nx 9420 !!!

Regards

Alain

Hi:

Back in those days there were separate bluetooth modules.

Combination wifi/bluetooth cards did not come out until several years after the nx9420 model series.

Here is the service manual.

If you are good at taking things apart, you can probably buy a used but tested and working bluetooth adapter on eBay.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01058816

You can't upgrade the wifi card because there is something called a BIOS whitelist which prevents any wireless cards from working other than those listed in the service manual.

They must also have the HP part number on them, or they won't work.

See Chapter 3 for the list of parts and part numbers.
