Hello,
I was recovering my laptop that was in storage for a while. When I inspected the laptop, it was missing the hard drive, and I bought a new SSD to operate the laptop once again. When I boot the laptop up, I notice that the internal display isn't receiving the image/video signal. I plugged in via the HDMI cable to the external monitor, and it received the image signal when OS system is loaded up. When I try to access the BIOS, the internal and external displays don't receive any image signal. Therefore, I didn't want to perform a blind BIOS update if a latest BIOS update is available. I also didn't want to change the settings in BIOS without knowing the specific settings I need to adjust. I opened my laptop to check if the LCD cable was faulty, and it appears to be intact. The camera is operable, but not the internal display. LCD cable came with two components that are connected with one cable: the camera and the display. The touchscreen feature is separate and it's operable. The device manager stated that the internal display has the error code of 45. The specific driver is named "Generic Monitor". I was wondering if there are any available drivers to update, and hopefully, that any new drivers will resolve the issue of blank display.

@Mr_TopGamey, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with the internal display on your HP ENVY 15-u011dx x360 Convertible PC after installing a new SSD and upgrading to Windows 11. Let's walk through the steps to help resolve this.
Check for Latest Graphics Driver
Your system likely uses Intel HD Graphics 4400. You can download the latest drivers directly from HP:
- Select Windows 11 as your OS.
- Download and install the Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver listed.
- Restart your system after installation.
Fix Error Code 45 in Device Manager
This error typically means the device is not connected properly. Try the following:
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click on the Generic Monitor with the error.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop. Windows should attempt to reinstall the correct driver.
BIOS Display Issue
Since neither internal nor external displays show anything during BIOS access:
- Avoid blind BIOS updates unless absolutely necessary.
- Try a BIOS reset:
- Power off the laptop.
- Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds.
- Release all keys. This should trigger a BIOS recovery screen (if supported).
If this doesn't work, the issue may be hardware-related (e.g., LCD panel, cable, or motherboard).
Hardware Diagnostics
Run HP's built-in diagnostics:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run the Display Test and System Test.
Check LCD Cable Again
Even if the cable appears intact:
- Ensure it's firmly seated on both the motherboard and the display panel.
- If possible, test with a replacement LCD cable or panel to rule out hardware failure.
If the issue persists after driver updates and diagnostics, we suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
