Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP Pavilion m4-1003tx Notebook. I read that the left side USB ports of the laptop do not work. The speakers work fine when connected via USB but other devices do not work. Also, the tiles do not open.

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Since how long are you facing these issues?
  • Did any software changes or updates happen on the laptop recently?
  • Does the right side USB port work fine?

I did some research and recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • If these issues started then I suggest you to perform a Microsoft System Restore to roll back the laptop to an earlier date when everything worked fine. This will not delete your data.

Post a successful system restore, you may test the USB ports. Also, test the tiles too.

If the USB ports still do not work then you may run a hardware test on the USB. The following steps should help:

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  • Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second.

  • The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.

HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI screen

  • Select component tests.

List of the Component tests

  • Please initiate a test on the USB Port - This test is interactive and requires you to connect an external USB device, like a mouse, keyboard, or USB flash drive when prompted.

Before running the test, make sure there are no USB devices connected to the port you want to test.

To start the test, click USB Port, click Run once, and then connect a USB device to the port you want to test.

Repeat the steps if you need to test other USB ports on the computer.

  • If the USB test passes then please refer to the USB software troubleshooting from this HP document. If the USB test fails then you may contact our HP phone support to check the available service options.

Secondly, if the tiles still do not work then you may perform a Windows refresh (repair)

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Please feel free to let me know how it goes. All the best!
