HP Spectre x360 Laptop 14-ef0776ng (6J9G7EA)
Microsoft Windows 11

My left/right arrow keys have not been working for months, and this makes my job more difficult. The hardware seems intact, and just as many other users experiencing the same porblem, I am quite sure this is a softwar problem. I have renewd drivers etc. but noh change. There are 3 drivers installed for my keyboard:

- HID keyboard

- HID keyboard

- PS/2 standard keyboard

On an external USB keyboard, all works fine.

Why do so many HP customers have this problem with exactly those to keys? For an expensive pro laptop, I think this is not acceptable.

 Please help

Hi @emsstrand,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing with your HP Spectre x360 keyboard arrow keys. Since the external USB keyboard functions correctly, it points towards a software configuration or driver issue. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and resolve this:

Check Keyboard Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel > Keyboard and ensure that all settings are correctly configured. Sometimes, sticky keys or filter keys can affect key operation.

Reinstall Keyboard Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager.

  • Locate the keyboard section and expand it to see the installed drivers.

  • Right-click each of the drivers (HID keyboard and PS/2 standard keyboard) and select Uninstall Device. Don’t worry; the necessary drivers should reinstall automatically upon restarting your computer.

  • Restart your PC after uninstalling drivers.

Update BIOS:

  • Ensure that your BIOS is up to date. You can download the latest BIOS update from the Official HP® Support specifically for your model.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your Windows operating system is updated. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

Run Keyboard Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.

  • Select Keyboard and click Run the troubleshooter.

Test in Safe Mode:

  • Boot your system into Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if a third-party application might be interfering.

Check for Physical Obstruction:

  • Even though the hardware seems intact, carefully inspect the keys for any physical obstructions or debris lodged under or around the affected keys.

Perform a System Restore:

  • If the problem started recently, you might be able to resolve it by restoring your system to a previous state where the keys were functioning.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
