Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP ENVY dv7-7250us Notebook and you would like to know how can you lock the Windows screen and open it using a password. I'll do my best to help you.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Based on the product no. C2H71UA#ABA, your laptop was shipped with Win8 operating system. Did you downgrade it to Win7?

Since you have mentioned your operating system as Win7, I'll provide you the steps for Win7. Please perform the following steps to add/remove or edit a password in Win7:

  • Click the Start button at the bottom-left of your screen.

  • Click Control Panel.

  • Click the User Accounts link.

  • Click the User Accounts link again.

  • If there is more than one account, click the Manage another account to display all of the accounts.

  • Double-click the desired account.
  • Select Create a password, Change the password, or Remove the password.

  • After selecting the action, close the window to save the changes.

After this, you may press the Ctrl+L keys or the Ctrl+Alt+Del keys to lock your laptop screen. Then to unlock it use the password you setup.

I hope this information helps. Let me know how it goes. Cheers! 🙂
