Hello,
I had a hard drive fail on me recently. Sadly, I had not backed it up and didn't have a copy of the same OS to reinstall. However, I had another OS on a pen drive, and decided to install that on a new hard drive. The problem is that now the nvidia graphics card and the beats audio have disappeared from the device manager list and are unusable. Could anyone tell me why this has happened and how to rectify it please?
Secondary question would be, is it possible to find out what OS was installed previously, and how?
Thanks in advance.

Hi:
Your notebook originally came with W8.1 64 bit from HP.
HP ENVY 15-j142na Notebook PC Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support
You can reinstall W8.1 for free by downloading the plain W8.1 ISO file from the link below.
Download Windows 8.1 Disc Image (ISO File) (microsoft.com)
Use the Microsoft tool that I zipped up and attached below that you will need to transfer the ISO file to a DVD or USB flash drive so that it is bootable, or you can use the free Rufus utility to create a bootable USB.
Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way
After W8.1 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
HP ENVY 15-j142na Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR) Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Customer Support
Then if everything is working correctly on W8.1, you can click on the blue Update Now button at the link below to upgrade to W10 for free.
Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
This Beats Audio driver should work for your notebook on W10...
