McAfee pop-ups began after I downloaded HP Smart for my new Laser Printer. I noticed the the pop-up quoted PCApp.exe at the bottom of the pop-up so I uninstalled PCApp.exe via the Windows uninstall App procedure.

Hi @Sidwozere,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The McAfee pop-ups you encountered are likely related to a trial or bundled software package that might have come with the HP Smart app or pre-installed software on your PC. Here's what you can do to ensure McAfee pop-ups are fully stopped.
Steps to Address McAfee Pop-Ups:
Uninstall Related Software Completely:
- Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program.
- Look for any entries related to McAfee or PCApp.exe and uninstall them.
Check for Leftover Files:
- Navigate to C:\Program Files\ and C:\Program Files (x86)\ to check for folders named "McAfee" or "PCApp".
- If found, delete these folders (ensure they are not in use).
Disable Startup Entries:
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
- Go to the Startup tab.
- Look for McAfee or PCApp-related entries and disable them.
Use a Dedicated Uninstaller Tool:
- If standard uninstallation does not remove all traces, download the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool (MCPR) from McAfee's official website. It removes all leftover components from your system.
Check Your Browser for Extensions or Settings:
- McAfee software may have added browser extensions. Check your browser's extensions/add-ons and remove any related to McAfee.
- Clear your browser cache and cookies.
Review the HP Smart App Installation:
- The HP Smart app itself should not directly trigger McAfee pop-ups. However, during installation, you may have accidentally agreed to a bundled McAfee trial. Reinstalling HP Smart (from a reliable source like the Microsoft Store or HP's official website) could help if issues persist.
Check for Malware:
- To ensure these pop-ups are not part of a broader issue, run a full system scan using Windows Defender or another trusted antivirus solution.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
