HP 14s-dq0011na

Hello,

I recently purchased a HP laptop that runs on Windows 11 in S mode. Within the description of the laptop, it mentioned that it includes a 30-day trial for McAfee Online Protection. I am rather confused on how to activate it as all I could download is the Mcafee Personal Security app. With the S mode activated, I couldn't download any other apps except for those in the Microsoft Store. Does anyone here has a similar experience or knows how to activate it?

I am assuming that it would allow me to start the trial considering it came with the laptop itself, but there seems to be limited answers online. Greatly appreciate for any help, thank you!

Hi @Aaxhxi_xn

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

You're right to be confused, —Windows 11 in S Mode is quite restrictive when it comes to installing third-party apps.

Since your HP 14s-dq0011na includes a McAfee Online Protection trial, but only allows downloads from the Microsoft Store, here’s what you can try:

Steps to Activate McAfee Trial in S Mode:

  1. Check Preinstalled Apps – Open Start > All Apps and look for McAfee Personal Security. This is the version available in the Microsoft Store.
  2. Sign In or Create an Account – Open the app and sign in with your McAfee account (or create one).
  3. Activate the Trial – If your laptop came with a trial, it should automatically activate upon sign-in.
  4. Check HP Support – Some HP laptops require activation through HP Support Assistant or a McAfee registration email.

If You Can't Activate the Trial:

  • Confirm Your Subscription – Go to McAfee's official site and check if your laptop is registered.
  • Consider Switching Out of S Mode – If you want full McAfee protection, you may need to exit S Mode to install the full version.

Let me know if any of these steps work or if you need further troubleshooting! You've got this.
