Hi all, so I hope this helps others experiencing issues with their wifi completely failing on ANY device using the MediaTek MT7921 driver. So today I found my laptop having no wireless, and Windows didn't even see the hardware in the device manager. I ended up connecting a dongle to my laptop and was able to do some searching. I found this to be an extremely common issue. It is however NOT a hardware failure, as much as it seems to be. While Windows doesn't show it in the device manager if you go to the system information panel, then go to hardware and networking, it will show as present. The Lenovo driver package is functional, I really don't know why HP doesn't do anything about this, this card is not new and the issues reported are also a little too long in the tooth for being so widespread, anyways, here's the link to the good driver:
Don't worry about it being a Lenovo driver package, it'll work fine. Then afterward, do a cold reboot (shut down your PC all the way and then press the power button) when it comes back up to Windows and you login in, you should be back online/ Hope this helps!

Welcome to HP Support Community!
We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊
-
Check Device Manager: You mentioned that Windows does not recognize the hardware in the device manager. Ensure that the "Network adapters" section in Device Manager is fully expanded and check for any hidden devices by clicking on "View" in the device manager and selecting "Show hidden devices."
-
Update Drivers: Use the HP Support Assistant to check for driver updates. You can download updates for software or drivers directly related to your HP device.
- HP Support Assistant often has more recent drivers directly from HP compared to Windows Update. For details on using HP Support Assistant, visit HP PCs - Downloading or updating software and drivers.
-
Windows Update: Sometimes driver issues can be resolved by updating Windows, as they may contain patches or updated drivers. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for new updates.
-
Reinstall Driver: If the driver update does not work, consider uninstalling the current driver and reinstall it. It can sometimes fix issues if there was a corruption in the driver files.
- In Device Manager, right-click on the problematic driver and select 'Uninstall device'. Then restart your PC which should attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.
-
HP and Manufacturer's Websites: Visit HP's official site for any specific patches or updates for your device model. Similarly, MediaTek may have released updated drivers which can be found on their official site.
-
Network Troubleshooter: Windows has a built-in network troubleshooter which can sometimes identify and fix issues. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network Troubleshooter.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved, and if you feel this reply was helpful, click “Yes”.
