My HP laptop came with Office 365 pre-installed. I accidentally deleted it.

Is there any way to restore it without a completely new purchase?

Hi Kd-in-PA,

Welcome to the HP Community! I am a new volunteer here participating in the HP Solve-a-thon, and I have great news for you: you absolutely do not need to purchase Microsoft Office 365 again!

When you first set up your HP laptop and activated the pre-installed Office 365, the digital license was permanently linked to your personal Microsoft account, not just the physical files on your hard drive. Because of this, restoring it is quick and completely free.

Here are the two easiest ways to get your software back:

Method 1: Reinstall via Office.com (Recommended)

This is the most reliable way to ensure you get the full suite downloaded and activated correctly.

  • Open your web browser and navigate to office.com.

  • Sign in using the exact same Microsoft account (email and password) that you used when you originally set up your new HP laptop.

  • Once logged into your dashboard, look for the Install Office or Install apps button (typically located near the top right corner of the screen).

  • Click it to download the setup file. Run the installer, and once it finishes, open any app (like Word) and sign in to reactivate your license.

Method 2: Use the Windows 11 Microsoft Store

Since your machine is running Windows 11, the built-in Microsoft Store also remembers your digital licenses.

  • Open the Microsoft Store app from your Windows Start menu.

  • Click on Library (the icon located in the bottom left corner).

  • Scroll through your list of owned apps and look for Microsoft 365 or Office.

  • Click the Install button next to it.

Do not worry about any lost work, either. If you were saving files to OneDrive, all of your documents will be right there waiting for you as soon as you sign back in.
