As a flight enthusiast I was delighted to run FS2020 on my new Omen which I bought only to fly.
Now I bought the successor FS2024 with an even more detailed landscape - and NOTHING! The message that appears while booting the software says: " Shader Model 6.7 is not supported by this device! Maximum Shader Model supported is 6.6."
Great - what in the hell is a shader Model and why can't my expensive OMEN not handle the new FS2024?
I updated the video driver - but no change.
I think it would be fair if HP can suggest a solution.
Thank you whoever might read this.

@Heinz-Omen, Thank you for your response
Yes, many HP OMEN models offer the ability to upgrade components, including the GPU (graphics processing unit). However, the ability to upgrade largely depends on the specific model and the internal space, power supply, and physical compatibility of the new GPU. Here are a few considerations for upgrading the GPU on an HP OMEN:
- Physical Space: Ensure that the new GPU fits within the case dimensions of your OMEN PC.
- Power Supply: Check if the power supply unit (PSU) can provide sufficient power for the upgraded GPU. Higher-end GPUs generally require more power.
- Compatibility: Make sure that the GPU is compatible with your motherboard and other components in your system.
- Cooling: Ensure the cooling system can accommodate the increased heat output from a more powerful GPU.
Your model supports:
Hybrid Discrete Graphics:
● NVIDIA® 17P-GO (GeForce® GTX 1050) with up to 2048 MB of dedicated video memory (128 Mb× 32 GDDR 5 7
Gbps × 4 PCs)
● NVIDIA 17P-GO (GeForce GTX 1050) with up to 4096 MB of dedicated video memory (256 Mb× 32 GDDR 5 7
Gbps × 4 PCs)
● NVIDIA 17P-G1 (GeForce GTX 1050Ti) with up to 4096 MB of dedicated video memory (256 Mb× 32 GDDR 5 7
Gbps × 4 PCs),(For units equipped with 7th generation Intel Core i7 processor only)
Switchable Discrete Graphics (For units equipped with 7th generation Intel Core i7 processor only):
● NVIDIA N17E-G2 (GeForce GTX 1070) with up to 8192 MB of dedicated video memory (256 Mb × 32 GDDR 5 8
Gbps × 8 PCs 1.5 V / 8 Gbps)
● NVIDIA N17E-G1 (GeForce GTX 1060) with up to 3072 MB of dedicated video memory (128 Mb × 32 GDDR 5 8
Gbps × 6 PCs 1.5 V / 8 Gbps)
I hope this helps.

@Heinz-Omen, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
You're running into a limitation of your GPU (graphics card) — specifically, it's related to Shader Model support, which is required by modern games like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (FS2024).
What is Shader Model?
Shader Models are part of DirectX, a graphics API used by Windows for rendering. Each version of Shader Model introduces more advanced graphical features. FS2024 requires Shader Model 6.7, which is only supported by the very latest GPUs and drivers.
Your PC supports Shader Model 6.6, which likely means the GPU is outdated for FS2024.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is more graphically demanding and designed with the latest hardware in mind.
I hope this helps.
