Solved!

Missing PCI controller driver

HP Recommended
250 G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My 250 G4 laptop has always been missing a PCI controller driver ever since I bought it and installed windows 10 on it.

I tried re-installing the OS but to no avail, I tried installing every suggested driver there is for this product on this site but it didn't do it.

The only solution so far has been to just disable it, but I think it has something to do with usb ports (at least some of them) because I can't seem to safely eject my thumbdrives whenever I actually use them, without resorting to shutting the pc down.

I've read you need to know its hardware ID so here's the information:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_22DC&SUBSYS_80C5103C&REV_21
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_22DC&SUBSYS_80C5103C
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_22DC&CC_118000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_22DC&CC_1180

Hope someone is able to understand what the problem is and help me, thanks.

Hi:

See if this driver works...Restart the PC after installing the driver.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp82001-82500/sp82033.exe

If that one doesn't work then this driver should...

I installed the first one but it didn't change anything (even after a restart).

I tried to install the second one but it warned me that I alredy have a newer version, should I install it anyway?

Hi:

No, don't install the second one.

The device you're missing is installed by the first or second driver.

If no drivers were installed, the device would be listed twice, so the driver you see newer than the second one I posted has already installed the second instance of that device.

Try a newer version of the chipset driver...

Installed it, restarted the PC, but the device is still there driverless.

It tells me I already have a newer version of it. Do I avoid installing this as well?

No, but go ahead and install the second driver I posted earlier.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp82001-82500/sp82025.exe

Here is a discussion where I solved the same device with the same ID, but the driver I posted for that one was for Windows 7.

Wow thanks, that did it.

This laptop did come without an OS, so I should have expected some incompatibilities but I didn't know a newer driver would be the cause of it. Thanks again.

You're very welcome.

Neither did I, or I would have had you install that driver in the first place.

Glad I found that old post which confirmed that was the right driver to use no matter what.
