Please try the following drivers. Note: You have to install 4 first and reboot before the rest.
1. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp46501-47000/sp46972.exe (and also for 5)
2. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53501-54000/sp53806.exe
3. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp51001-51500/sp51096.exe
4. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59684.exe
5. as 1 above
6. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63786.exe
Regards.

Hi BH,
You'll have to excuse my ignorance on this one, please. I have clicked on the link for no. 4 (for some reason this doesn't work from the HP website, i get a 404 error, so have opened in gmail) and it downloads an exe. file to run. I need to save the file to a USB flash drive so that i can run the exe. file on the affected laptop, my 8440p. I am currently using a different laptop because the 8440 cant access the net.
Please forgive me if i'm missing something simple, but it doesn't give me the option to 'run' or to 'save to'.
Thanks in advance.

There is a funny thing around here, please use the second Chipset driver on the following link
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-elitebook-8440p-notebook-pc/4095872
Which is the same one as the one listed as #4 above. If click won't work, please copy the link and paste to URL of browser and hit enter.
Regards.

@ BH
You're a hero. I managed to save the drivers to a flash drive and install on my 8440p. They all worked except the one below:
Unknown device
ACPI\HPQ0004
*HPQ0004
After attempting to install 6. "http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63786.exe", I get the following error message:
"The HP 3D DriveGuard driver cannot install, the Accelerometer hardware is not present or supported on this unit"
Please advise if there is another driver link. Thanks ever so much for your help so far!
