HP Pavilion Laptop PC 14-dv1000 (464V1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My old HP laptop used to have "momentum" (or "inertia"), which allows the cursor to continue to move after "flicking" the mousepad.  It does not seem to be available on this laptop.  Is there an HP-approved driver that will allow me to acquire this feature?

Hi @mcguirekt,

I understand your HP Pavilion Laptop 14-dv1000 is not showing the “momentum” (or “inertia”) cursor behavior that you had on your previous laptop. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and what options are available.

Check Touchpad Type

Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touchpad.

Verify whether your touchpad is listed as a Precision Touchpad or as a manufacturer-specific driver (like Synaptics or ELAN).

Note that only certain touchpad drivers support “momentum” or “inertia” features.

Update Touchpad Driver

Visit the HP Support website and enter your laptop model 14-dv1000.

Download the latest touchpad driver / input driver available for Windows 11.

Install the driver and restart your laptop.

Check Advanced Touchpad Settings

After installing the driver, go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touchpad → Additional settings / Advanced (may appear as a Synaptics or ELAN control panel).

Look for any options labeled Momentum, Inertia, or Pointer Acceleration.

Enable the feature if available and apply changes.

Experiment with Sensitivity and Pointer Options

In Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touchpad, adjust sensitivity and scrolling speed.

Go to Control Panel → Mouse → Pointer Options and try adjusting Enhance pointer precision.

These settings can somewhat mimic the “glide” effect even if full momentum is not available.

Alternative Software Options

Some third-party mouse/touchpad enhancement apps can simulate momentum.

Only use apps compatible with Windows 11 and your touchpad hardware.

Note on Limitations

HP Pavilion 14-dv1000 with Windows 11 may not fully support the old momentum/inertia behavior if the driver doesn’t include that feature.

In most cases, using the latest OEM driver and adjusting sensitivity and pointer options is the closest approximation.

I hope this helps.
