So, I like my cursor settings on max speed, however when I'm doing something, after a while the speed automatically decreases, and I absolutely despise that. I don't want to turn off precision, but I really hate that the cursor speed goes down automatically. I use Vegcoo wireless mouse, and they have no driver software to offer. What can I do to stop the speed from going down on its own? And I know some people will recommend I turn it back up, but it doesn't go any higher than 20, and the slider doesn't show that it went down, which only adds o my confusion since the speed went down but the slider shows otherwise.

Hi @Twiluta,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you’re experiencing, where the cursor speed slows down despite the settings indicating otherwise, could be caused by several factors. Here are steps you can take to identify and fix the problem.

Check Mouse Settings in Windows

  • Press Win + I to open Settings.
  • Navigate to Devices > Mouse.
  • Click on Additional mouse options under "Related settings."
  • In the Mouse Properties window, go to the Pointer Options tab.
  • Ensure "Enhance pointer precision" is checked if you prefer it on. However, some users find disabling this option resolves inconsistencies in cursor speed.
  • Click Apply and OK.

Verify Power Management Settings

  • Right-click the Start Menu and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
  • Right-click on your mouse and select Properties.
  • Go to the Power Management tab.
  • Ensure the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked.
  • Click OK and restart your system.

Disable Adaptive Cursor Speed Changes

Windows might be automatically adjusting settings due to software features. To ensure stability:

  • Press Win + R, type main.cpl, and press Enter.
  • Adjust the Pointer Speed slider to maximum again.
  • Disable any advanced mouse acceleration features in third-party apps.

Update or Reinstall Mouse Driver

Even if the Vegcoo wireless mouse doesn’t have specific drivers:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Right-click your mouse under Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Select Update Driver and choose Search automatically for updated drivers.
  • If no updates are found, select Uninstall Device (your mouse will still work temporarily).
  • Restart your computer to allow Windows to reinstall default drivers.

Rule Out Interference

Wireless mice can suffer from interference:

  • Ensure the mouse receiver is close to the mouse, with no major obstructions.
  • Test the mouse on another computer or with a different USB port.

Test Without Enhance Pointer Precision

Although you prefer it enabled, some users find that disabling "Enhance pointer precision" stabilizes cursor speed:

  • Return to Mouse Properties and uncheck "Enhance pointer precision."
  • Apply the changes and test the mouse speed.

Use Mouse Speed Testing Tools

To confirm the issue, use a mouse speed testing tool or software to track changes. Tools like MouseTester can help you analyze if the speed is genuinely fluctuating.

Check for Conflicting Software

Background applications or services might interfere with your mouse:

  • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check for unnecessary apps running.
  • Temporarily disable any software that might influence mouse settings, such as game-related apps or third-party mouse utilities.

Consider Compatibility Issues

If none of the above works, it could be an issue with the Vegcoo wireless mouse itself:

  • Test another mouse to confirm if the problem is specific to the Vegcoo device.
  • If another mouse works fine, the Vegcoo mouse may have firmware or hardware limitations.

By following these steps, you should be able to stabilize your cursor speed and regain consistent performance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
