The Mouse Touch Pad on my computer has stopped working. I have done a full lap of all the software based options uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and updating drivers etc. The computer is two years old and out of warranty but gets very minimal use so mind mind is blown that it is likely a hardware issue. Has anyone had this problem? And what did you do?

It’s frustrating when a touchpad stops working, especially on a device that hasn’t been heavily used. Since you've already tried software-based solutions like reinstalling and updating drivers, here are some additional steps to determine if it's a hardware issue:
1. Check Touchpad Settings
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Touchpad.
- Ensure the touchpad is enabled.
- If an external mouse is connected, disable the option "Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected."
2. Run Windows Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Select Additional Troubleshooters > Touchpad and run the troubleshooter.
3. Check Device Manager
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click the touchpad driver and select Update Driver.
- If updating doesn’t work, try Uninstalling the driver and restarting your laptop.
4. Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the laptop and unplug it.
- Hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
5. Check BIOS Settings
- Restart your laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS.
- Navigate to Advanced > Built-in Device Options.
- Ensure Touchpad is enabled.
6. External Test
- If possible, connect a USB mouse to confirm whether the issue is isolated to the touchpad.
7. Hardware Inspection
- If none of the above steps work, the touchpad may have a loose connection or physical damage.
- If you're comfortable, you can open the laptop and check the touchpad ribbon cable for any disconnections.

Hi thanks for your response. I have tried the BIOS option and I have restarted and reset the computer. I have also reinstalled the drivers and none of these have worked. Bottom quarter of the touch pad is just about working and I can click on items.

- A damaged or partially disconnected touchpad ribbon cable.
- A faulty touchpad sensor grid, where only a portion is still functioning.
- Physical pressure or warping in the palm rest area affecting touch sensitivity.
Here’s what I’d recommend next:
Boot into Safe Mode
This helps rule out any lingering driver conflicts.
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
- Under the Boot tab, check Safe boot > Minimal, then restart.
- Test the touchpad in Safe Mode. If the issue persists, it’s almost certainly hardware-related.
Use HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press the power button, then immediately tap Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
- Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- Run the Touchpad or Input Device Test (if available).
- If the test fails or isn’t listed, that’s another sign of hardware degradation.
Inspect the Touchpad Internally (if you're comfortable)
- Power off and unplug the laptop.
- Remove the bottom panel and check the touchpad ribbon cable—it may be loose or partially seated.
- If reseating doesn’t help, the touchpad module itself may need replacement.

Hi thanks for these suggestions. I have run through as many software options as I can. There is a small yellow triangle next to the relevant driver for the touch pad but even when I delete the driver and restart the computer so it reinstalls the same driver comes back and the yellow triangle returns. Curry's, where I bought the computer said that they could not help. What hardware fix options do I have?
