Hi,
The easiest way to solve this may be to run Windows System Restore. If you have Norton Internet Security installed, you will need to disable Nortons Tamper Protection as shown in Step 2, on the link below.
http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20091112171719EN&ln=en_US
Once you've done this, shut down the PC. Windows System Restore is usaully best run in Safe Mode. Tap away at f8 as you start the PC to enter Windows Recovery Console. Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and hit enter. When this has loaded, from the Start Menu, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools and launch System Restore. Pick a restore point before the mouse buttons swapped funtions and then proceed with the restore process. When complete, Windows will reboot as normal.
If the above doesn't help, post back with the full Model No. of your notebook and the operating system you are using.
Regards,
DP-K

That's actually often a normal feature in the first page of Mouse Properties--so you can use your mouse left handed conveniently, e.g. if you wanted your left hand index finger to be used for your primary click. ; )
Hmm... for example, under Control Panel Mouse my first Buttons tab is for my wireless mouse and my second Buttons tab is for my Tablet's TouchPad. In that tab there are two radio buttons labeled Right-handed (ironically on the left) and Left-handed. So, if your problem was with your TouchPad probably all you would need to do is click to put the opposite handed button in effect. In the case of my wireless mouse it apparently wouldn't be quite so simple but it would still be straightforward, just redefine the buttons so the right-hand one is secondary click and the left-hand one is primary click. Etc.

I don't know if this will help someone else, but the same problem just happened to me, and nothing seemed to correct it. And then I thought "What would happen if I simply disconnect the plug-in dongle and re-insert it?" And voila! Problem solved.

This solution worked for me also. I tried to reboot the laptop, turn the mouse off and alter the settings but pulling out the dongle seemed to do the trick.

No change when I change poniter settings inControl Panel. Yes,did re-start and all else. This is happening on TouchPad and ANY mouse, even ones working normally on other machines.System Restore points unavailable back as far as I need.
Thanks.
