Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So I was using my laptop to watch some youtube, and when I went to play a game (and listen to spotify) the buttons weren't working to change the song. About an hour ago, I cleaned my keyboard (without turning my computer off like an idiot), and now this is happening. When I use the "fn" key instead of using the function key, it uses the multimedia key. I haven't touched the BIOS but I do know how to access it, so this wasn't done with BIOS. There is nobody else that could have changed my computer, and I dont do much with my computer that leaves it susceptible to viruses.

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

I see that your experiencing issue with the function keys,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • When was the last time it worked fine?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?
  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  1. Press the power button to turn off the computer.

  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly to open the Startup Menu.

  3. Press the f10 key to open the BIOS Setup menu.

  4. Select the Advanced menu.

  5. Select the Device Configuration menu.

  6. Press the right or left arrow key to select Enable or Disable the Fn Key switch.

  7. Press the f10 key to save the setting and restart the computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
