Hi @Sam20061,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Fix problems with your keyboard:

  • Try to resolve specific issues, and then attempt general troubleshooting steps.
  • If either the volume or brightness keys don't work, you might be at the upper or lower limit for that setting.
  • If either of the backward or forward keys doesn't work, check whether the corresponding icon in your browser window is grayed out. For example, if the back button on a web page is grayed out, there is no web page to move backward to in that browser.
  • If you have other problems with your keyboard, try these steps:
  • Turn off the Chromebook, and then turn it back on.
  • Use the keys while you browse as a guest. If the keys work, delete the account that has the problem on your Chromebook, and then add it again. For more information about browsing as a guest, go to https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/1057090.
  • Complete a hard reset on your Chromebook hardware. For more information, to to https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/3227606.
  • If the owner account has problems, perform a factory reset on the Chromebook. For more information about the owner account, go to https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/1059256. For more information about performing a factory reset, go to https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/183084.

Troubleshoot issues with the keyboard:

  • If you still have problems, check the diagnostics.
  • On your computer, open Settings.
  • In the search bar, type diagnostics.
  • From the dropdown, select Diagnostics, select Input, and then select The internal keyboard.
  • Select Test.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
