I have an EscapePod 13 GEN processor. It’s the windows 11 edition, and I’m a writer, which makes this even more frustrating for me. I’ll be typing along, and although my information disappears and I can easily put it back with control Z, it shouldn’t be doing that, but that’s beside the point. My major issue is that the cursor, while I am typing, will jump to another portion of my page and start typing there instead. Often times, because I do not stare at my hands or the screen while I’m typing, I won’t realize it until a couple of sentences in. You may be able to understand how infuriating this is—-how time-consuming it is—and how draining this becomes after several times. And when I say several times, I’m talking about several times within five minute increments. So, has anyone else had this happen? Is it the model? Or am I just unlucky enough to have a messed up, one-off system?

Hi @MJ8Brewer,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with the cursor jumping on your HP device while using Windows 11. This can be particularly frustrating when you're trying to write. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve this issue:

Check Touchpad Sensitivity: Often, the cursor might jump if your hands accidentally brush the touchpad while typing. You can adjust the touchpad sensitivity settings in Windows 11 by going to Settings > Devices > Touchpad and then adjusting the sensitivity.

Update Drivers: Ensure that all your device drivers are up to date. You can do this by visiting the Official HP® Support and downloading the latest drivers for your model.

Disable Touchpad While Typing: Some laptops have an option to disable the touchpad temporarily while you are typing. This setting can usually be found in the touchpad settings area.

Scan for Malware: Sometimes, malware or unwanted software can cause erratic behavior. Perform a thorough scan of your system using a reliable antivirus software.

Check for Windows Updates: Make sure that your Windows 11 is up to date with the latest patches and updates from Microsoft, as these can sometimes address bugs related to input devices.

External Mouse: If you are using an external mouse, try disconnecting it to see if the problem persists. Alternatively, if you're not using one, try connecting an external mouse to check if the issue is only related to the touchpad.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thank you, Jerry_57, for your response.

While I followed the footsteps in checking the touchpad, the only options corresponding with it were in selecting the showing of the icon from “always,” “never,” and “when no keyboard attached.” Other than these selections, I was unable to locate any other settings that might correlate with the taskbar.

A Malware program was also utilized in attempting to combat the issue—to no avail.

The brands and systems I’ve utilized in my lifetime are far too numerous to count, and I’ve never run into this issue of the mouse haphazrdly skipping around before now. Granted, nuances change over time, but I may end up switching back to an iMac, unfortunately. I really don’t know what else to do. While I do not commend their political stance and greed, I do need the best system for professional standards.

Thank you for responding, and have a joyous holiday.
