Hi, I have an HP laptop and try to log on but it is asking me to create a pin. I attempt to create a pin and then it tells me there was an error, and it will not let me pass this. What can I do?

Hi @Sunshine202300,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're having trouble with your HP Stream laptop asking for a PIN and then giving you an error. To help you resolve this issue, I'll provide some general steps you can take. Keep in mind that the specifics might vary depending on the exact error message you're receiving. Here's what you can try.

Verify the PIN: Double-check that you're entering the correct PIN. It's easy to make a mistake while entering numbers. If you're not sure about the PIN, try entering it slowly and carefully.

Restart the Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix various software-related issues. Restart your laptop and try entering the PIN again after it boots up.

Offline vs. Online Account: Windows allows you to use both offline and online accounts. If you're using an online account, make sure your laptop is connected to the internet while entering the PIN. If it's an offline account, you might need to use your regular password instead of a PIN.

Use Another Sign-in Option: On the PIN entry screen, you might see an option to sign in using a different method, such as your Microsoft account password. Try using an alternative method if it's available.

Reset PIN: If you've forgotten your PIN or it's not working, you might need to reset it. To do this, you might need to use your Microsoft account password. Here's how:

  • On the PIN entry screen, click on "I forgot my PIN" or a similar option.
  • You'll be prompted to enter your Microsoft account password.
  • Follow the instructions to reset your PIN.

Safe Mode: If the issue persists, you can try booting your laptop into Safe Mode. This starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services, which can help troubleshoot problems caused by third-party software. While in Safe Mode, try entering the PIN again.

Update Windows: Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes, updates include bug fixes that can address issues like this.

System Restore: If the problem started recently, you can try using System Restore to revert your system to a point where it was working fine. This might undo any recent changes that could have caused the PIN issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
